Knowledge is Power
Mar 02, 2022
I woke up Monday like a bear with a sore head. I don’t know why I think it was a mixture of being tired and frustrated from sorting out a damaged to a wall at our rental property… which is very annoying but it's one of the things in life.
Let’s put things in perspective that luckily no one was hurt
I think that kind of annoyed me and I tweaked my back doing it… age doesn’t come alone.
Everything then irritating me for the whole day.
I tried not to let it get to me and it was only till today I've actually realised that I didn’t do what I always preach not to get hung up on things you can't control.
I can’t control what happened to the wall.
Sometimes just got to put it behind you and not let it ruin your following day or get frustrated by things.
Anyway, so we're on to another day....
People keep asking me why I read so much and listen so much and try and devour as much information as possible. The simple reason the reason I do it is so that you don't have to or my clients don't have to.
I enjoy learning and striving to be the top of my game. I will never be the finished article and will always want to learn and develop.
Knowledge is power…
There is a famous story that illustrates this very well..
A giant engine in a factory failed. The factory owners had spoken to several ‘experts’ but none of them could show the owners how they could solve the problem.
Eventually the owners brought in an old man who had been fixing engines for many years. After inspecting the huge engine for a minute or two, the old man pulled a hammer out of his tool bag and gently tapped on the engine. Immediately the engine sprung back into life.
A week later, the owners of the business received an invoice from the old man for £5,000. Flabbergasted, they wrote to the old man asking him to send through an itemised bill.
The man replied with a bill that said:
Use of a hammer: £5
Knowing where to tap: £4995
The moral of the story is that, while effort is important, having the experience to know where to put that effort makes all the difference.
That story speaks for itself
The more knowledge I can have, the better I can be for my clients.I strongly believe the day you stop learning is the need to walk away from what you're doing.
You should always be learning you should never be that arrogant that you think that you know everything. Now I've met people like that genuinely think that they know everything. That is the arrogance that I think will be their downfall eventually.
I will cover off what I am learning and listening to in the next instalment!
Yours Kindly,
Gareth.
