The Power of Tiny Gains
Mar 01, 2022
Well, what a start to the year…
We all took a breath as we entered a life we were used to post March 2020, and then Putin decided to throw his toys out of the cot.
Not much else can be thrown at us now…
I think as humans we are very resilient and need to remember we have been through times like this before and we will get through them again. There is endless doom and gloom in the N.E.W.S or as we like to say :
Negative
Events
World
Service.
Positive news doesn’t sell papers or digital ones as they are these days.
And yes that includes you Social media..
You are probably the worst.
Full of doctors, dentists, solicitors, personal trainers, chefs, you name with zero experience or qualifications in the so called “knowledge” they are putting out there. Hiding behind a wall of safety, these people who wouldn't say boo to a goose in public.. You know who you are.
We have all heard of that person who one minute is trolling a famous person they don't even know and the next minute supporting “be kind” for people's mental health.
These people are toxic and need to be avoided at all costs.
I only tune into what I can control and try to block out the rest of the noise, as let’s face it a lot of the things in the news is just noise.
Endless increases in costs, house prices soaring, oil prices... We can’t control these things, but we can control how we respond and act.
I try to concentrate on what I can control, and these are some of those things:
- Reading & Educating
I listen to podcasts and audio books that promote positive energy on a daily basis. Currently,I am listening to various podcasts ranging from Rob Moores' "Money" through to Steven Bartletts "Diary of a CEO"
I am also listening to James Smith book “Not a life Coach”
(Check out James' Instagram right here : instagram.com/jamessmithpt)
- Quality Family Time
I think it is a choice to finish work late and not see your kids or wife evening not the fact that you are that busy. I get it if you work shifts as I once did but anything else is just an excuse… Yes I said it..
- Nutrition & Exercise
Eating healthy – I am not talking diets as diet are just fads people go through, I mean putting healthy balanced nutritious food in you.
It’s proven to lift your mood.. just like exercise! Even just a 10-minute walk outside can make all the difference
- Sleep
Get some.
No excuses.
Turn off that phone and sleep
Don't obsess over the things you can not control..
I have worked on a lot of these things over the last few years, and they don’t come easy.
- Think Micro actions.
- Make small changes each day to avoid overwhelm.
James Clear who wrote atomic habits talks about the power of tiny gains and in summary : If you get 1% better each day for a year, you’ll end up 37 times better by the time you’re done.
So, I'll leave you with a final thought ...
What can you do each day that makes a difference to you and those around you?
Yours positively
Gareth
